A small city just 30 miles east of Los Angeles, Claremont is home to 36,266 residents and lots of open, recreational space. According to the city’s website, it has “21 City-owned parks and sports fields with 2,534 acres of public parkland, of which 2,378 is wilderness.” It also has the Thompson Creek Trail, a linear park following a 2.8-mile paved trail, and has won the National Arbor Day Association’s Tree City USA award for more than 30 years.
Niche.com ranks Claremont as #25 out of 217 for being one of the best suburbs to live in Los Angeles and #60 out of 525 as one of the best suburbs to live in California. Sunset Magazine rated it “The Best Suburb” in its ranking as one of the “Five Best Communities in the West.”
Claremont’s small-town feel is what makes it a popular spot for families and older adults alike. “The City has a well-educated, professional, and skilled labor force; quality and diversified residential areas; and excellent educational and recreational facilities,” Claremont’s official welcome guide states. “These attributes, along with progressive, well-managed City government and intense interest in community and cultural activities, make Claremont an ideal place to live and to conduct business.”
The average household income is $105,759 while its median household income is $94,005. A full 32.6 percent of its residents have graduate or professional degrees and 24.2 have bachelor’s degrees.
Demographically, the town is 67.7 percent Caucasian, 24.1% Hispanic, 15.6% Asian, and 4.3% African American. Approximately 4.5% are two or more races and 0.7% are Native American. The median age of residents is 39.6, which is why niche.com ranked it as #76 out of 525 as one of the “Best Suburbs for Young Professionals in California.”
According to Realtor.com’s September 2020 statistics, Claremont is a seller’s market, meaning there are more buyers than homes. “There are 124 active homes for sale in Claremont, CA, which spend an average of 51 days on the market. Some of the hottest neighborhoods near Claremont, CA are Oakmont, North Claremont, Vista, Condit.”
There is also plenty to see and do in the area, as well as places to work. Claremont borders the Angeles National Forest and contains many hiking trails. It sits at the base of Mr. Baldy and has the Claremont Wilderness Park, which features a five-mile walking loop.
The city is also home to the Claremont Colleges, a consortium of seven highly selective private institutions made up of five undergraduate colleges and two graduate schools.
